State Band Contest
Monday, April 14, 2008

A very big congratulations is in order this morning to the "Tiger Pride" Concert Band.

The band earned a solid, EXCELLENT RATING, (second highest rating a band can earn) from all 6 judges yesterday at the M.H.S.A.A. CONCERT/SIGHT READING Contest. The band raised their ratings from last year and that's pretty much what it is all about.

Mr. Gunsch and the band missed making a SUPERIOR rating in SIGHT READING by two points. That's amazing! Thank you Mr. G. and band. You all need to be very proud of yourselves!!! Too, we so appreciate that Mrs. Alexander took the time to come see us perform. I dare say that there were not too many school principals in the audience during the two weeks of the contest! (:*)

I entered a band director's contest with the co. who made our warm-ups. If we win, we get $300.00 off of our next purchase. Tons of other schools have sent in photos. Who knows, I took a shot!

Dear GTM Sportswear:
I could not "up load" the photo form your site. Not sure why but I couldn't. Hope that you can accept our photo via e-mail.

My statement:

My high school band students asked if I could order warm up suits for them. They noticed that all other organizations i.e. dance team, cheerleaders, color guard etc. had windbreakers which easily identified their organization if you were to see them walking across campus. I was going to order jackets for them right before "Katrina" arrived. Your company sent me a sample. When my family fled to Tennessee, I brought mine with me. Not knowing that we would be away form Bay St. Louis for two months, your warm-up suit, honestly, kept me warm during our September and October stay in TN. I made a promise to myself that when I was able, as all 5 of our schools lost everything in the storm, I would order the suits for the entire band.

Two years later, I did just that. Our band boosters paid for half of the cost and the students paid half. The suits arrived in August and as my booster parents issued them to the band, one of my flute players stated that this was better than Christmas morning! I know this all sounds a bit "cheesy" however, the next school day almost the entire band could be seen on campus with their jackets on and the temperature was still in the 90's! The kids are so proud of them. GTM does a "superior" job from start to finish.
Thank you!

Sincerely, Ms. Catchie Crider

Hello, "Tiger Pride" Band and Staff!

I want to thank you all for working so very hard during color guard, percussion camp and full band camp! Despite the heat, the tar fumes, our muddy and rutty practice field, the ant bites, bee stings, stomach viruses and sore throats you all worked extremely hard! Kudos, also, to all of our college student instructors. You all were awesome.

I thought since you will be playing Elvis music for the next 3 months you would like to know a little more about (MY MAN) Elvis! Check out this official Elvis biography and this July 26th TVLand special!!.

Please practice and memorize, at the very least, your first two songs!

See y'all on Aug. 6th and don't forget to bring your instruments and music to school. I will have the band hall unlocked for you that morning. Rest and enjoy what's left of your summer.

Don't forget to SELL, SELL, SELL your "Tiger Cards"!

    Musically yours!
    Ms. Crider
